Dulwich Harps 1.16 - Brighton & Crawley 0.7
After 3 weeks of no games it was back to winning ways for Dulwich. Peckham Rye was the venue with the pitch looking immaculate and both teams turning out well. Brighton/ Crawley started the better of the 2 but lucky for Dulwich the scoring boots weren't on missing about 4-5 points in the first 10-15 minutes. But a well taken point from Ciaran Griffith settled things down for Dulwich. Ciaran was a thorn in the Crawley defence and was having a serious battle with the full back. Both teams shared possession in the first half relatively evenly. Dulwich managed to settle down at midfield with some great fielding from Frank Bonnor and Gareth Halpin. It was on the breaks where they Dulwich let themselves down with the Crawley centre back sweeping up everything. Dulwich were lucky to be going into the break with a lead of 7 points with some fine scores from Ciaran Griffith, Padraig O'Flynn and Jarlath Cogan.
The second half started much like the first with Crawley getting their act together in front of the posts albeit from some less than impressive defence from Dulwich. 15 minutes in Crawley managed to drag it back to 08- 05 but again Dulwich seemed to settle in the second period of the second half with some quality long range scoring from Tim Dennehy and Tom Lynch this gave Dulwich the edge and Crawley's heads seemed to drop. The nail in the coffin came from Derek Flynn who managed to out jump the keeper and palm the ball to the back of the net. Dulwich were popping points over for fun with 10 minutes to go with Padraig O'Flynn and Ciaran Griffith again hitting the mark. This was an incredibly sporting game with both teams being a credit to their respective clubs.
Brighton/ Crawley can be happy with a number of their teams performances albeit the result does not do them justice and have some nice footballers. Dulwich would like to thank them for making the trip to Peckham and hopefully the curry in the white horse after went down well. Also it is not often a referee in London gets credit but Charlie Egan handled the game very well and contributed to the sporting nature of the fixture.
