Parnells Club Notes
February 25, 2017
Parnells Youth GAA held their AGM on the 18th February 2017 at the Green Man in Kingsbury. Tony Griffin (current chairperson) opened the meeting with an overview of 2016. In a very successful year there were many highlights on and off the field. To cover all in a brief report is not possible but a few were as follows: the launch of the new club website (thanks to Tim Slattery), the annual club trip that ventured to Ballydonoghue, Co Kerry, the hosting of our first visiting youth team from Passage West, Co Cork, the winning of the U18 London Championship-‘3 in a row’, the advances made in the club’s ‘Gaelic for Girls’ programme led by Fiona Corrigan and supported by Liam Taylor and our largest membership basis ever. Players, parents, managers and officers were all thanked for their time, support and dedication. Outgoing officers; Fintan Doran, John McCarthy and Tricia Madden were also given a special mention for their fantastic work over the years.
The following officers were elected: Chairperson-Tony Griffin, Vice Chairperson-Ollie Sheehy, Secretary-Colin Corrigan, Assistant Secretary-Veronica Bailey, Treasurer-Martin Reilly, Assistant Treasurer-Colin McGuinness, Registrar-Tim Slattery, PRO-Irene Sheridan and Childrens Club Officer-Sinead Griffin. Names also given to other roles along with managers and coaches for the new season.
The Annual Club Dinner and Dance, celebrating 66 years took place at the Claddagh Ring in Hendon on the 18th February 2017 and was a fantastic occasion enjoyed by all three sections of the club. A big thank you to Finbar Holian for being such a marvellous host and providing wonderful food and hospitality. The evening contained some speeches and awards but most of all great ‘craic’ and enjoyment by all to the music of Slim Attraction. Congratulations to the following recipients on their awards: The men’s Player of the Year went to Jamie Barry (hails from Listowel, Co Kerry) who had a fantastic first season with the Club and the Youth Club Person of the Year went to Colin Corrigan, the current Youth Secretary who was very deserving of the award.
