Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes:
The footballers lost out to Tara in the Mullarkey Cup Final on Saturday in what was a very physical and entertaining game. Thanks to Martin Keyes and Johnny Dwyer for all the work they have put in over the year and we hope to see them kick on next year.
Mens Football:
Result: Mullarkey Cup Final - Thomas McCurtains: 0-07; Tara: 1-08
Concession of an early goal by McCurtains proved decisive in this Mullarkey Cup Final. Played in cold yet near perfect conditions it proved to be an entertaining affair. Looking to make up for a disappointing defeat to the same opposition in the league playoff the lads from east London gave themselves an uphill battle as Taras bundled the ball into the back of the McCurtains net straight from the throw in. They were lucky not to have another goal as Jake Conway gave away a penalty for a foot block but it was well saved by player manager Martin Keyes.
Some direct running by McCurtains on the attack started to produce some nice scores and along with two Mark McGirr frees got themselves back into the game. However with the decent wind at their back Tara picked off some long range points leaving the half time score 1-05 to 0-04 in Taras favour.
It was all pressure on Taras in the second half as Thomas McCurtains threw the kitchen sink at them. They found it difficult to work the ball out of their own half against the wind however some good defence made it difficult for the McCurtains forwards to find their range. With ten minutes to go the game was in the balance and could have gone either way but Taras finished the stronger. Even being reduced to 14 men for the last five of these didn't phase the Junior Champions.
