Thomas McCurtain's Hurling and Football Club Notes
June 06, 2016
Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes.
Well done to Gavin O'Flatherty, Richard Ellis, Philip Murphy, Kevin Delahunty and Mark Gilsenen. They were part of the London Junior Panel who overcame Kilkenny on a scoreline of 4-06 to 0-09 in Nolan Park in the British Championship on Saturday. Next up they play Gloucestershire in Ruislip on Sunday 12th June at 2.00pm.
On the home front the Ladies footballers and the Camogs were both in Championship action. The ladies had mixed results both winning and losing one match while the Camogs powered past their opponents in their first ever Championship game.
The club are hosting a race night on the 18th June in Tommy Flynns Bar & Kitchen, Leytonstone. For details see below.
Ladies Football:
Results: IFC: Thomas McCurtains: 2-09, Kingdom Kerry Gaels: 1-06,
McCurtains were always in control of this game, with an early Kathryn Canavan goal putting the Ladies to the fore. Led by the midfield duo of Barrett and Fitzpatrick they were the stronger team throughout and they never relinquished control. A well taken goal by King in the second half and some tireless work by Michelle Dolan made sure of a well earned victory.
THOMAS MCCURTAINS: F. McGovren; C. Comane, A. O'Leary, M. Johnson; L. Naughton, N. Owens, S. Roche; C. Barrett, A. Fitzpatrick; K. Carr, O. King, K. Canavan; L. McGuigan, M. Dolan, S. Connolly.
Subs: B. Murphy for McGuigan, J. Murphy for Connolly and S. Carey for Carr.
IFC: Thomas McCurtains: 1-11, Holloway Gaels: 2-09,
A strong comeback by the East London Ladies in the second half wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as Holloway lead throughout. In what was a great team performance, the half back line of Naughton, Owens and Roche shone throughout with some great support by Shauna Connolly and Orla King in the forwards. Overall there are plenty of positives that can be taken going into the next match.

The U12 team reached the final losing to the host club. They played 6 games , losing only 1 on route to the final. They also won against 2 Irish teams, Parkes from Mayo and Round Towers from Dublin. Our U14 team narrowly missed out on the Semi-final stages. They played 6 games in there group winning 2 and losing 3 games by 1 point. Our U14s did not have any subs available on the day which meant that throughout the day our lads were tired. Both teams played 96 minutes of football and represented the club well. Congratulations to all involved on the day especially those who volunteered their time.
