Thomas McCurtains Hurling & Football Club Notes
May 03, 2016
Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes.
On a great bank holiday weekend Thomas McCurtains Camogs made quite the statement claiming their first bit of silverware by winning the Junior Cup at the Tara's 7-a-side tournament. The McCurtains Ladies weren't as fortunate as the lost out to Parnells in the Commemoration 7-a-side.
This weekend the hurlers look to make it three wins from three in the Ronan Cup as they take on Kilburn Gaels in goodmayes on Saturday While on Sunday the Footballers return to action against Dulwich Harps in the League and the Camogie team are off to Birmingham again to play in a Junior League Blitz.
Camogie:
The Camogs arrived in Greenford on Saturday to compete with two teams, Thomas McCurtains Ãg, captained by Mary McBrien, and Thomas McCurtains Eilis, captained by Orla King.
The group stages provided plenty of entertainment with four very competitive matches for each team. Thomas McCurtains Ãg were unfortunate not to get a win from their matches but some very exciting camogie being played with stand out performances from Imelda Moloney, Marie O'Reilly and Noleen Owens. Thomas McCurtains Eilis had an impressive three wins from four in their set of matches to secure a place in the Junior Cup final against hosts, and favourites, Tara's. The final was a tense and exciting match from start to finish with McCurtains answering everything the Tara's ladies had to offer and the game ended a draw going to extra time. Aileen O'Leary got McCurtains' only score of extra time, a goal at the start of the second half which proved to be enough for the East London ladies to take the win 1-0 to 0-2. A great way to start the club's first season and hopefully a sign of things to come. Thanks to The Queens Head, Stratford for their generous sponsorship of jerseys and kit and to the management who turned out in great numbers to support the team on Saturday.
Next up for the Camogs is the Junior League Blitz, Round 3 on 8th May in Páirc na hÃireann, Birmingham.
Camogie training will take place on Wednesday this week at 7pm in East London Rugby Club (E15 3BP).
