Thomas McCurtains Hurling & Football Club Notes
April 27, 2016
Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes.
Last weekend the club travelled to Passage West GAA Club in Cork. Our Hurling, Ladies and Mens Football teams played in a series of challenge matches against Passage to celebrate and commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.
The day started with the proclamation being read both as Gaeilge and in English by local children. This was followed by a series of challenge matches. Played in near perfect conditions both clubs served up three brilliant contests. Passage gained the upper hand in the Hurling winning by five points but the McCurtains Ladies managed to even this up winning their match by five points as well. In the last game of the day the Passage football team kept their McCurtains counterparts at bay to win by a point. After the matches Fionnuala McCurtain, Grand-daughter of Thomas McCurtain, gave a speech and presented a history of Thomas McCurtain to the club.
It was especially a day to remember for Gavin O'Flaherty as he returned to his home club. Thomas McCurtains wish to thank him for all the work he did to make this weekend happen. We would also like to thank past players, members and families who travelled to support the club and all the volunteers at Passage West GAA Club who helped make it such a successful weekend.
