Thomas McCurtains GAA Club Notes.
Last weekend our footballers secured their place in the semi finals of the McArdle Cup with a good win over Ãire Ãg on Sunday and the hurlers received a walkover from Robert Emmetts 'B'. While on Saturday our Minor team lost their first league game against a well drilled Tir Chonaill Gaels team. A young team, they battled well and started to click towards the end of the second half.
This weekend will be another busy one at Goodmayes as the U-16 Footballers get their league campaign under way on Saturday against St Kiernans at 2.00pm. Then on Sunday we have three teams in action. First up are the Ladies who start their Senior League campaign against Fulham Irish at 11.00am. This will be followed by the Hurlers in the Ronan cup at 1.00pm and the footballers finish the day off with their final match of the McArdle Cup group stage against Tara at 2.30pm. All available support would be welcome.
Mens Football:
Result: McArdle Cup Group 1, Round 4: Thomas McCurtains: 2-11, Ãire Ãg: 0-10.
Strong Finish Sees McCurtains Into Semis:
McCurtains never really looked in trouble in this McArdle cup fixture at Goodmayes. Some stellar defensive work by the full back line of captain Seamus Conwell, Jason Conway and Dermot Corrigan kept Ãire Ãg at bay. While goals in the first half from Mark Gilsenan and Richard Ellis, and points from Philip Murphy, Gilsenan and a Gavin O'Flaherty free put McCurtains in the driving seat, going in 2-04 to 0-02 to the good at half time.
Ãire Ãg came out fighting after half time and hit their purple patch at the start of second half cutting the gap to three. It took 10 mins before McCurtains managed to trouble the scoreboard again but from then on points from Peter Haughey, Paddy O'Neill, Micheal O'Leary, Murphy, O'Flatherty and Gilsenan restored their lead to run out comfortable winners in the end.
Best for McCurtains were Cathal Crowe, Philip Murphy and Mark Gilsenan.
