Conrad Ryan U14 Football Tournament

The Tara’s were successful in this year’s Conrad Ryan U14 football tournament held in a windy Greenford on Saturday last(27th April). The competition was fierce as Tara’s, Parnell’s, St Kiernan’s, St Clarets and Tir Chonaill Gaels battled it out for the cup.

During a very competitive group stage it is clear to see that the future is in safe hands. Some of the play that was witnessed was a true reflection of the great work that is being done in London. After everyone had finished they’re four group games it had showed that all the teams were evenly matched as there was a three way tie for group winners, the calculators came out and Tara’s emerged on top.

Due to this, the fixtures were drawn and this brought us a heavyweight bout between Parnell’s and St Kiernan’s. The contest at times was too hard to call as the two sides fought to the bitter end. With the Kiernan’s pulling away it took a gallant effort from the Parnell boys to save themselves before the bell. Extra time was needed to separate these two sets of warriors, with the Parnell’s striking that knockout blow with 2 mins to go. St Kiernan’s will regroup and take the positives but it was the Parnell’s who took on the awaiting Tara’s.

A tall ask for the Parnell’s lads who had to come through grueling semi-final but to their credit they did themselves proud against a very competent Tara’s side. After a fast start the Tara’s raced into lead. In fairness to the Parnell’s they kept fighting and managed to pull it back to a 4 point game. The task proving too much as the wear and tear over the course of the day took its toll as the Tara’s pulled clear.

On the day it was the Tara’s who won but effectively it was London football who won out with the performances from these future stars.
