Kiernans crowned London Minor kings08-10-2018
St Kiernans edged a thrilling 2018 London Minor Final 2-10 to 3-05 over rivals Parnells at a drenched McGovern Park, Ruislip.
The first half was a tense and cagey affair blown wide open by two goals from Parnells' Conal White and Ciaran Griffin after both goalkeepers had earlier made magnificent saves to keep their nets intact.
However, Parnells were then dealt a hammer blow when Michael Walsh and David Pender had to be withdrawn after an accidental clash of heads and Elliot McPhun, Matthew Joyce and Ali Carney chipped away at their lead to help Kiernans turn around level at 2-03 to 0-09.
The second half was even tenser affair than the first in the worsening conditions, but Caoilte Healy majored for Kiernans before Niall Twomey, who gave a fine display in both halves, put Parnells back in the driving seat after raising a third green flag.
But Parnells' JoJo Thabo received his marching orders and a straight red card for striking with Sean Walsh's well-taken goal crucially giving Kiernans the lead late on.
The victors then held on in the rampant rain to their precious two-point advantage against the 14 men to secure the 2018 U17 London Championship title in nailbiting style.
