National Football League Division 4 Round 4
National Football League Division 4 Round 4
February 28, 2018
London 0-13
Antrim 0-17
London have already secured their best league performance in years after earning 3 points in their first 3 games. Nevertheless, they would have been eager to build on this and this game against Antrim would give them a real opportunity to test themselves. Antrim themselves chasing promotion visited Ruislip hoping to keep pace with the undefeated Carlow and Laois.
London had the aid of a strong breeze in the first half which they used to great advantage and led by 0-04 to 0-01 with 11 minutes of the first half played. Once Antrim had found their feet they started to close the gap and found themselves only one point behind at half time. Antrim spurned a lot of great opportunities from scoreable frees but they choose to pass short which often broke down. Their lack of a competent free taker was more than apparent. At half time the scores read London 0-08 Antrim 0-07.
The sides were level a total of 6 times throughout the game. The final time the sides were level came with 20 minutes remaining with the score at 11 points apiece. The equalling score coming through Mark Gottsche from a 40-metre free. Then came Antrim’s purple patch where they hit 5 unanswered scores, McGourty the shining star through this period. Ryan Jones and substitute Conor Doran attempted to close the gap late on but Antrim held on to record a 4-point win.
The win for Antrim leaves them a single point behind both Carlow and Laois after the weekends results. London now look forward to the Leitrim test in the coming week which looks to have become an altogether tougher fixture after Leitrim disposed of Limerick convincingly. London play Leitrim next Saturday March 3rd at 1pm.
